Back To School Jam

Back-To-School-Jam

Over the passed few years we have held our annual “Back To School Jam” in the city of Philadelphia at the end of each summer to bring everyone together for one big group ride before school starts back up and we slowly head into another East Coast winter, these jams also started as a way to help celebrate the memory of our fallen friend Darrell Bokano whom we tragically lost five years ago in a house fire in South West Philadelphia.

After much thought it brings me great sadness to announce that this year we will not be hosting the jam, we would like to thank everyone for their emails, comments, questions and interest in the status of the jam this year but it seems each year the police presence grows stronger during the jam and with Philadelphia’s new anti-vandalism laws in place and the loss of many of the bigger spots that can host a crowd of 100-200 riders it seems that we have come to a stand still.

We would like to thank everyone who has come out to the jam year after year for their constant and continued support but we do not want to be responsible for anyone getting arrested or fined during this event, we agree that these new laws are unfair and hope you all understand why we find it best not to hold the event this year.

Thank you.

Philadelphia Toughens Penalties

Love-Sign

The mayor of Philadelphia, Michael Nutter has offered legislation to toughen up penalties for vandalism and damage of public art, monuments, and memorials including those that honor military, police, firefighters, and other public figures.

“The bill prohibits skateboarding, rollerblading and bicycling on monuments and public art and would make this new offense punishable with a maximum fine of $2,000, up to 90 days in jail for adults and confiscation of the skateboard, rollerblades or bike. The ordinance also eliminates the lower penalty level for ethnic intimidation and institutional vandalism, making all violations subject to a maximum $2,000 fine and up to 90 days in jail.”
