Photo Gallery: Catty Woods Halloween Jam 2018

Words & Photography by Tasha Lindemann

The woods of Catasauqua, PA were filled with changing leaves, witches, cowboys, and 20 inch bicycles for the weekend of October 20th, 2018. Pennsylvania’s summer rainstorms have wreaked havoc on many trail riding sessions. This weekend was the perfect opportunity to make up for lost time, laps were never-ending and many riders rode into dusk, holding on to any last bit of sunshine.

The 3rd annual ‘Schwantz Best Trick Contest’ was absolute mayhem, including Decades, Double Whips, a Big Daddy Bike Transfer and celebrity judging from Cory Nastazio. John Beutner of Indiana pulled the win with a 180 Lookback.

A new contest added to the Halloween Jam this year was ‘High Air on Boomers’ and the competition was fierce! Mere inches separated competitors; Cody Diggs, Clint Reynolds and John Beutner, but in the end Cody Diggs pulled off the win.

The Halloween Jam was successful because of the dedicated locals and the incredible sponsors. Thank you to S&M, Fit, Empire, TRA, Mutiny Bikes, Action Wheels Bike Shop, and Block Bikes! To learn more about upcoming jams or ways you can help Catty and Posh, check out pawoods.com.

Photo Gallery: Women’s Weekend In The Woods 2018

The 2nd Annual Women’s Weekend in the Woods took place September 22 and 23rd in the woods of Pennsylvania. A simple idea that came together during the cold Northeast winter months last year has proven to be a success yet again. With the support of our jam sponsor T1 and all of the companies that sponsor the trails including S&M, Fit, and Empire BMX, we were able to give women a weekend to come ride trails knowing the woods would be full of other girls. With more women coming out to ride the trails this year than last, it was an awesome weekend where riders of all ages and skill levels could come together to enjoy riding bikes & roasting jumps.

Women’s Weekend in the Woods is a low-key, low-pressure event where girls can come and ride Catty and Posh Woods, two legendary trails spots within driving distance of one another. There are no contests, no clinics, no rules. Just come hang out in the woods and get stoked on trails. Women brought their families, their dogs, their infectious positive energy and for two days nothing mattered but BMX.

Friendships that were created last year grew stronger this year, as women from all over the world came to ride, many of which were jumping higher and going faster than they had last year. There were also women there who had never ridden BMX before but wanted to try it & Women’s Weekend in the Woods provides that safe and supportive environment to send it for the very first time. I am forever grateful for the women’s BMX community and the locals who came together to make this event happen as well as everyone who supports Catty and Posh all year round. See ya in the woods!

On Saturday, August 25th, the Stink Pit crew premiered their latest video ‘Stink Pit 5’ in Aston, Pennsylvania. The event was hosted at Ryan Serrano‘s new house and included a DIY ramp session, a BBQ, the premiere of the video, and a bonfire to cap off the night. Shortly after, Ryan reached out to us with some photos from the event shot by Dave Homer. The photos took a while to obtain, but they are finally available for your viewing pleasure after the jump.

Special thanks to Ryan Serrano, Dave Homer, and the Stink Pit crew.

Posh Woods High Air Contest

The third annual Posh Woods High Air Contest was held this past weekend despite a rainy Labor Day weekend forecast. The jam was pushed from Saturday to Sunday, September 2nd, due to some rain that lasted through Friday night into early Saturday morning. For the locals, Saturday’s postponement provided a last-minute opportunity to fix the damage caused by the storm and get everything running smoothly for the following day.

This year a ‘Best Whip’ contest was also added to the mix with the jam kicking off at 10 am Sunday and the contest portion at 1 pm. In the end, Ever Peacock emerged as the 2018 High Air Champion, clearing over fifteen feet of air on The Butcher Jump as well as taking first in the ‘Best Whip’ contest. Congratulations to all the winners and a huge thank you to Jess Grinager for filming and editing the above video as well as the Posh locals, from whom none of this would be possible without.

Adem Gunaydin – Welcome To Legend Bikes

Ride PA BMX is proud to present the exclusive premiere of Adem Gunaydin’s “Welcome To Legend Bikes” video. Adem was picked up by Legend Bikes shortly after the third and final stop of the Uncovered BMX series which took place at the Four Seasons Skatepark in Milwaukee earlier this year. While Adem has been recovering from surgery on his ACL, MCL, and meniscus, his “Welcome Edit” is composed of footage that pre-dates his knee injury. The video was filmed and edited by Nick Elison with additional filming provided by Chris Girouard. Congratulations to Adem and we look forward to seeing him back on his bike soon.

Don’t forget to follow Adem and Legend Bikes on Instagram and check out the Legend Bikes website for more. You can also catch the trailer for the video below.

Retrospective: The Final Street Series

The Street Series was originally started in the U.K. by Tom Creasy, DUB BMX, and Monster Energy. In its six-year lifespan, The Street Series grew from an idea into a globally recognized event staged in cities around the world and held in support of BMX Day. The final Street Series took place on Saturday, July 22, 2017, and was hosted in Melbourne, Moscow, Paris, London, San Diego, and Philadelphia. Dan Lacey returned to host the event in Philadelphia for the second year in a row, and with the assistance of Matt Miller and the Chocolate Truck crew, guided the crowd of hundreds of BMX riders from spot to spot through the neighborhoods of North Philadelphia.

One year later, we reconnected with some of the locals that were in attendance as well as our contributing photographers, Sam Downs, Frank Ashbridge, and Kyle Dipilla, for a look back at the final Street Series in Philadelphia. Frank Ashbridge also edited together some previously unseen footage that he filmed during the 9th and Poplar stop of The Street Series.

We hope you enjoy.

Photo Gallery: O’Hara Trails – Friday The 13th Jam

Everyone loves these corner jumps that bring you back into the main set. Ryan Serrano laying it Flat.

On Friday, October 13th, 2017 the locals (@nobikesinthelivingroom) that maintain the O’Hara Trails in Springfield, Pennsylvania hosted a ‘Friday the 13th’ jam to celebrate the most unlucky day of the year with an open invitation to ride the legendary trails. For the locals, the majority of the trail riding season was spent combating weather damage from the winter, several harsh rainfalls including the fallout from Tropical Storm Cindy, and building new lines. After all that hard work, the jam was a perfect opportunity for the locals to enjoy the fruits of their labor with the trail riding community. The combination of the fall weather mixed with smooth running lines kept the jam and the good times going well into the night.

Ride PA BMX contributing photographer Kyle Dipilla was on hand during the event to shoot some photos on our behalf. You can check out the full gallery of photos in hi-res, after the jump. Don’t forget to follow @nobikesinthelivingroom for more from the O’Hara Trails and @dipillaphotography for more photography from Kyle.

Photo Gallery: Kink X Berks Street Jam

On Saturday, October 14th, 2017, the Kink BMX crew including Matt Miller, Tony Hamlin, Joe Niranonta, Jake Petruchik, Casey Starling, Breyon Woods (Bdub), and Kink video producer Darryl Tocco rolled through the streets of Philadelphia for a jam co-hosted with the Berks Street BMX Shop. The Kink crew was met with near perfect weather and an anxious crowd of BMX riders ready to throw down. The event made use of an empty parking lot at the John H. Webster Elementary School located across the street from the shop. A makeshift street course was assembled using a number of moveable obstacles including several rails and boxes, a bolted down pole jam, and even a fence for the afternoon. Shout-out to Gene Barclay for shooting the event on our behalf, Steve at Berks Street for constantly working to bring the BMX community in the Philadelphia area together and the Kink crew for always supporting the Philly scene.
