2014 Year End Q&A

Sam Downs - Air

1. My highlight for the year is definitely the Under The Sun video. That video captures what I’ve been doing for the last year actually ha.

2. Besides moving to NYC, I traveled to San Diego and LA. I also stopped in Philly and Jersey occasionally. All amazing spots to ride.

3. Favorite DVDs from the PA area are definitely The Yea “Fuckswitit” and all the parts from the Chocolate Truck video (even tho I know it didn’t come out this year.) Besides the PA area my favorite DVD is Above/Below from Monster Energy. I can’t stop watching it haha

4. I don’t think I’ve had a low part of this year. Riding scene was good when I left PA and it’s still really good. Not to mention the scene in New York is nuts haha. No complaints this year!

5. I’m looking forward to the next hothead project for 2015, and looking into getting some new equipment to make the next video better. Also looking forward to meeting new ppl in NYC!

1. Oh man, 2014 has been good to me haha! Some highlights have been settling into a rad new job, spending time with my son and fiance’, and getting the green light to pedal again after my back injury.

2. Aside from local travel to shoot photos, no. I’m back on a bike only a few weeks before the years end but hopefully I can get to travel a bit in 2015.

3. I honestly have not really been watching too much current stuff. Any edits that S&M/Fit or Mutiny drop are always rad. The Merritt video was cool too… Garrett Byrnes part from Criminal Mischief has been my favorite video part every year since 2002 hahahaha.

4. It’s not THAT terrible, but BMX has been getting sort monotonous over the past few years. It’d be cool to see a resurgence of more individual style and less concentration with what trick is hot right now. That and the lack of new DIY spots popping up. I’d love to see more people take the initiative that skateboarding has had lately and become involved in making new spots pop up. Back yard and warehouse ramps have become more and more scarce over the years, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who would love to have a winter or bad weather spot hahaha.

5. Spending time with the family, getting to ride/skate some new places, getting out with my camera more, maybe building something cool?

1. See answer to number two.

2. My very first trip to NY. I only got to be there for the day but I plan on going back a lot!

3. There’s so many I couldn’t choose!

4. I really didn’t have a low point this year which is a nice change.

5. I’m looking forward to filming more and making more trips to NY and other places.

1. Finding out that I am going to be a father. Another highlight would be the growing success of this website over the past year.

2. The only traveling I did was into the skateparks of New Jersey from time to time. Otherwise just various towns around PA spot searching and riding street.

3. Locally “Fucks Wit It” was my favorite full length. I was really into all the stuff those guys did surrounding the videos release. As far as web content goes Sam Downs did a hell of a job with “Under The Sun” I was really impressed with that one. Industry-wise “Holy Fit” was hands down the big one for me. Start to finish it’s an incredible video.

4. Just that Brian Histand is still missing. Brian is a great guy and one hell of a BMX rider. His disappearance has had a long lasting sting on me personally but Brian’s friends and family are keeping hope alive and we all hope that Brian will come home someday. #findhistand

5. The birth of my child and another year behind the scenes at Ride PA BMX.

1. My highlight would be riding with all of my friends and making new friends through riding all over the east coast!!!

2. I’ve been to Philly a bunch this year I went up to Rhode Island, NYC, MD, and even Florida.

3. Fiending was definitely my favorite but I also enjoyed “Summer Bullshittin'” by Rainer Etsweiler and Michael Stahl as well!!!!

4. My low point was probably feeling that I wasn’t progressing and dealing with drama between friends.

5. Looking forward to some awesome trips, turning 21 and Woodward!!!!
